Who is Focal Sopra N2 for?
Sopra N2 belongs on the shortlist for a dedicated stereo system or a carefully planned living-room installation. Its separate midrange driver, two 18 cm woofers and Beryllium tweeter give each part of the design a defined job. Start with the listening position and amplifier, then choose the finish that works in your home.
Reasons to shortlist it
- A dedicated midrange driver separates the vocal range from the two bass drivers.
- The IHL Beryllium tweeter and W-cone drivers bring Focal’s Sopra technologies into one system.
- Floorstanding cabinets include a tempered-glass base, spikes and magnetic grilles.
What to plan for
- Each speaker weighs 55 kg; plan safe handling and a suitable route into the room.
- The 3.1-ohm minimum impedance calls for an amplifier that supports the load.
- Room placement still matters: a floor-facing vent does not make corner placement a universal solution.
System matching and placement
Choose amplification by load, not just watts
Use Focal’s 40–300 W recommendation as a starting range. With a 3.1-ohm minimum, check the amplifier’s documented load capability, ventilation and performance at your listening level. An integrated amplifier or a preamp/power-amp combination can work; the exact model needs a system-level check.
Plan the floor space before the finish
Each cabinet is 119 cm high, 35.8 cm wide and 54 cm deep. Keep the floor-facing vent unobstructed, arrange the two speakers symmetrically where practical and adjust distance from walls and toe-in using familiar music. Use the supplied base and the manual’s floor-support instructions.
Sopra N2 vs Sopra N3
| Decision | Sopra N2 | Sopra N3 |
|---|---|---|
| Bass drivers | Two 18 cm W cones | Two 21 cm W cones |
| Frequency response, ±3 dB | 34 Hz–40 kHz | 33 Hz–40 kHz |
| Low-frequency point, −6 dB | 28 Hz | 26 Hz |
| Sensitivity, 2.83 V / 1 m | 91 dB | 91.5 dB |
| Recommended amplifier power | 40–300 W | 40–400 W |
| Dimensions, H × W × D | 1190 × 358 × 540 mm | 1264 × 402 × 595 mm |
| Weight per speaker | 55 kg | 70 kg |
N3 adds larger bass drivers and a larger cabinet. N2 may be easier to position in a shared living room; compare both at matched listening levels and include the amplifier and placement in the decision.

Frequently asked questions
Practical answers for choosing, connecting and positioning your system.
Which amplifier should I pair with Focal Sopra N2?
Focal recommends 40–300 W amplification for Sopra N2, but the amplifier must also be comfortable with its 3.1-ohm minimum impedance. Choose around your listening distance and normal volume, then check the amplifier manufacturer’s load ratings rather than assuming that any model within the wattage range is suitable.
An integrated amplifier is convenient; separate preamplifier and power-amplifier components offer another route. Share the exact amplifier model and room dimensions before committing to the combination.
Is Sopra N2 too big for my living room?
Sopra N2 is 119 cm high and 54 cm deep, so usable floor space matters as much as the room’s total area. Focal discusses rooms around 30 m² and up to 70 m², but those figures are planning guidance rather than a guarantee for every layout.
An open side, glass surfaces and the distance to the sofa can change the result. Mark the proposed cabinet positions on the floor and check walking space before choosing.
How much space does Sopra N2 need from the wall?
There is no single wall distance that will suit every Sopra N2 installation, even though it uses a floor-facing vent. Start with space around both cabinets, keep the vent unobstructed and adjust their position in small steps while listening for even bass at your usual seat.
Avoid assuming that a floor-facing port makes placement in a corner harmless. Follow Focal’s installation manual and consider the room’s side walls as well as the wall behind the speakers.
Should I choose Sopra N2 or Sopra N3?
Choose between Sopra N2 and N3 by room layout, amplifier and listening priorities, rather than size alone. N3 uses two 21 cm woofers instead of N2’s two 18 cm units, while its cabinet grows to 59.5 cm deep and 70 kg per speaker, making placement a bigger commitment.
Their published lower response limits are 34 Hz and 33 Hz respectively at ±3 dB. Compare them at similar volume with familiar recordings and include the complete system cost.
Does Sopra N2 need a subwoofer for music?
Sopra N2 does not automatically need a subwoofer for stereo music: Focal specifies 34 Hz–40 kHz response at ±3 dB and a 28 Hz point at −6 dB. A subwoofer becomes a separate decision when your recordings, room or home-cinema use demand more deep-bass capability.
Room measurements and careful placement help establish whether extra bass is useful. A subwoofer also needs appropriate connection, crossover and level settings to integrate with the main speakers.
Can I connect Sopra N2 straight to my TV?
Sopra N2 is a passive speaker and cannot connect directly to a television’s HDMI or optical output. You need a suitable amplifier or AV receiver between the TV and the speaker pair, with an input that supports the television’s audio connection and the desired stereo or surround setup.
For a stereo system, check the amplifier’s TV input and supported audio format. For surround, choose the receiver around all connected channels and their speaker loads.
Which centre speaker goes with Sopra N2 for home cinema?
Focal’s Sopra Center is the same-family starting point when building a cinema system around Sopra N2 front speakers. It is a separate purchase, and the decision must also account for screen height, centre-speaker dimensions, available amplification and how clearly dialogue reaches every seat in the room.
A matching range is useful but does not replace correct placement. Check the shelf or stand load rating and avoid recessing the dialogue speaker behind a cabinet edge.
What is the Focal Sopra N2 price in India for a pair?
AudioGuru lists the Sopra N2 as a pair of two speakers with price on request, so there is no fixed online INR amount to quote here. Ask for a current quotation identifying the finish and pair quantity, then compare the total system including amplification and any installation work.
Finish names shown in the selector indicate options to discuss, not a promise that every finish is available. Keep the speaker quotation separate from additional equipment when comparing alternatives.
