Description
Two loudspeakersPair listing
Two-way bookshelfPassive loudspeakers
25–100 WManufacturer recommendation
A passive bookshelf pair for a planned hi-fi system
Theva N°1 combines a 16.5 cm Slatefiber midbass driver and 25 mm TNF aluminium/magnesium tweeter in a rear-ported two-way cabinet.
Who it is for
Listeners building an amplified stereo system on suitable furniture or optional stands, or choosing front speakers for a receiver-based cinema system.
Trade-offs
It needs a separate amplifier and source. Compact cabinets do not eliminate placement constraints; deeper cinema bass may call for a separately integrated subwoofer.
Choose amplification and support together
Focal recommends 25–100 W and specifies 8 ohms nominal impedance with a 4.6 ohm minimum. Check the exact amplifier and listening demands rather than judging compatibility from wattage alone.
Explore integrated amplifiers and the optional Theva N°1 stand pair. The stand-mounted gallery photograph illustrates an accessory that is not included in this speaker listing. For furniture placement, follow the manual’s silicone-pad and stability guidance. Discuss your Pune room or India-wide system plan with AudioGuru.
Theva N°1 versus the next floorstanding N°2
| Model | Format | Published response |
|---|---|---|
| Theva N°1 | Two-way bookshelf; 16.5 cm midbass driver | 58 Hz–28 kHz |
| Theva N°2 | Three-way floorstander; 13 cm bass/midrange drivers | 53 Hz–28 kHz |
Compare Theva N°2 where a floorstander fits. Account for optional stand cost and footprint when comparing N°1. Browse the Focal collection for other system roles.

Frequently asked questions
Does Focal Theva N°1 need an amplifier?
Theva N°1 is a passive two-way bookshelf speaker, so it needs a separate amplifier; it does not accept a phone or television signal directly. Focal recommends 25–100 W and specifies 8 ohms nominal impedance with a 4.6 ohm minimum, which should be checked against the chosen amplifier’s guidance.
Choose the source connections separately from the speaker connection. A streaming amplifier can combine those roles, but the exact model still needs checking.
Are stands included with Theva N°1?
The ₹155,000 including-GST listing supplies a pair of Theva N°1 speakers, not the optional dedicated stands shown in one gallery photograph. Focal offers a separate 55 cm Theva N°1 stand with screw attachment and a tilted platform; confirm the stand pair separately when planning the system.
Do not infer included accessories from a lifestyle or mounted-product image. Check the stand assembly instructions and stability before placing either speaker.
Can I put Theva N°1 on a bookshelf?
Theva N°1 can sit on suitable furniture using the silicone pads described in Focal’s manual, but its rear port needs breathing room and a stable surface. Each cabinet measures 39.2 × 21.2 × 26 cm; check usable shelf depth, load capacity and cable clearance rather than relying on the bookshelf name.
Avoid enclosing the rear port tightly between books or against a wall. Compare the placement with dedicated stands if bass becomes uneven or the listening height is unsuitable.
Is Theva N°1 suitable for a small Pune room?
Theva N°1 has a compact bookshelf cabinet and a published 58 Hz–28 kHz response, but there is no manufacturer-backed universal room-size cutoff. Suitability depends on listening distance, usable placement space, room surfaces and volume; a floor-plan sketch is more useful than assuming every small Pune room needs the same setup.
Allow space for either suitable furniture or optional stands. Discuss neighbouring rooms and listening levels as well as the main seating position.
Do I need a subwoofer with Theva N°1?
A subwoofer is optional for Theva N°1: its specified response starts at 58 Hz, with a 49 Hz low-frequency point, so it does not cover the deepest cinema effects by itself. Decide from your music, films and listening level, then plan bass management and placement rather than adding bass automatically.
A poorly adjusted subwoofer can make room resonances more noticeable. Check the amplifier or receiver’s subwoofer connection and filtering options before choosing one.
Should I choose Theva N°1 or Theva N°2?
Theva N°1 is a two-way bookshelf model with a 16.5 cm midbass driver, while N°2 is a three-way floorstander with dedicated 13 cm bass and midrange drivers. N°2 reaches 53 Hz in its published response versus N°1’s 58 Hz; compare placement and amplification as well as the extra bass extension.
Optional stands increase the bookshelf system’s total footprint and cost. The floorstander needs its own stable floor space and suitable electronics, so neither format is universally preferable.
Why does Theva N°1 sound boomy near a wall?
A rear-ported Theva N°1 placed too close to a wall or corner can excite room bass resonances, even though its cabinet is relatively compact. Focal advises avoiding excessive wall and corner proximity; move the speaker and listening position in small steps before deciding that an amplifier or cable change is needed.
Use the same recording and listening volume for comparisons. There is no single clearance distance guaranteed to work in every room, so leave adjustment space.
How much does one Theva N°1 speaker weigh?
Focal’s Theva N°1 product sheet specifies 7 kg per speaker, while the current product webpage displays 14 kg without clarifying the unit context. Use the explicit per-speaker sheet figure for reference and confirm handling requirements before installation; this page does not assume what the webpage’s larger figure is intended to represent.
The original sheet also lists a 17 kg packaged carton for two pieces. Check furniture or stand suitability against the complete installed arrangement.
