Should I buy Theva N°2 or Theva N°3?
Theva N°2 uses 13 cm bass and midrange drivers in a 19.1 cm-wide cabinet, while N°3 uses 16.5 cm drivers in a 21.2 cm-wide cabinet. N°2 suits a narrower physical footprint; N°3 extends lower in its published response, but room placement still determines the practical result.
Compare the listening position and available wall clearance before choosing. The larger model is not automatically the better match for every room.
Can a small amplifier drive Theva N°2?
Do not judge amplifier suitability by cabinet size: Theva N°2 is rated at 8 ohms nominal but reaches a 2.9 ohm minimum, and Focal recommends 40–200 W. Check the exact amplifier’s load capability and your listening distance instead of assuming a slim speaker is always an easy electrical load.
The wattage range alone does not certify a particular amplifier. Share the model and usual listening level for a more useful matching discussion.
Does Theva N°2 work close to a wall?
Theva N°2 can be positioned to suit a room, but its rear-vented cabinet should not be treated as an install-flush-to-the-wall speaker. Focal’s manual advises avoiding excessive proximity to walls and corners because it can reinforce bass resonances; start with room to adjust the position rather than a fixed universal distance.
Move the speakers in small steps and compare the same recording at a consistent volume. The seating position can also change bass balance, so adjust the system as a whole.
Is Theva N°2 a good choice for a Pune apartment?
Theva N°2 offers a relatively narrow floorstanding cabinet measuring 93.1 × 19.1 × 35.2 cm, which may help where furniture limits placement width. Apartment suitability still depends on usable space, listening distance, acoustics and neighbours; a smaller footprint does not eliminate bass transmission or guarantee a balanced sound in every room.

Do I need a subwoofer with Theva N°2?
Theva N°2 has a published response of 53 Hz–28 kHz and a 44 Hz low-frequency point, so a subwoofer can extend a system where deeper bass is wanted. It is not compulsory for ordinary stereo listening; decide after considering the music, cinema demands, placement and listening level.
For home cinema, plan bass management with the receiver and subwoofer together. Adding a subwoofer without careful level and placement adjustment can make uneven bass worse.
Why does Theva N°2 lean backwards on its base?
Theva N°2 uses a tilted base as part of Focal’s Time Alignment design, so the intended cabinet angle is not a reason to add improvised packing underneath it. Assemble the supplied support correctly and check stability; each speaker weighs 17 kg, making safe handling and floor contact important.
The manual recommends two-person handling for the floorstanding models. Use the specified floor fittings and base instructions rather than trying to make the cabinet visually vertical.
Can Theva N°2 be the front speakers in a surround system?
A Theva N°2 pair can serve as the left and right front speakers in a receiver-based cinema system, but the pair alone does not supply a centre, surrounds or height channels. Plan the full channel layout and amplification separately, checking the speaker’s 2.9 ohm minimum impedance against receiver guidance.
Other Theva models provide different system roles and should be selected to match the layout. Do not count the drivers inside one cabinet as separate cinema channels.
